William Parish of Terre Haute
WILLIAM ORLANDO (Dandy) PARISH lived in Terre Haute from 1880 until his death in 1916. He was born in Campbell Co., KY, the 9th of February, 1844, the son of Elisha PARISH and Rebecca (MAXWELL) PARISH. He served in the 37th KY Infantry in the Civil War, 23rd Corp., Co. H. He requested and received a pension for varicose veins contracted while on a forced march from Richmond to Irving, KY, then back again to Richmond, from thence to Camp Nelson, then to Lexington and Mt. Sterling in the year 1864. In 1867, age 23, he married his first cousin, Mary Elizabeth PARISH in New Albany, IN. They had three daughters -- Olive, Jennie, and Jessie. By 1880 the family was living in Terre Haute. William Orlando worked in a rolling mill. From 1901 to 1916 they resided at 1014 N. Third. In the city directories of 1904 to 1910 he is listed as a puddler. In 1912 he was working as a watchman. He died 25 February 1916, survived by his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Jessie NOAKES, Mrs. Jennie HENDRICKS and Mrs. Ollie MARTIN, all of Terre Haute. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
